NDA Β· UNBS conformity Β· Import duty guidance
Uganda is a fast-growing East African market with significant public-health and NGO procurement. Medical devices and supplies are regulated by the National Drug Authority (NDA), with product standards supported by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS).
Medical devices require NDA oversight, and a verification/import permit is generally needed for each consignment. The importer of record in Uganda holds the registration and permits. SWIFTSKY provides the manufacturer and certification documentation to support the application.
Typical documentation required from SWIFTSKY per product line:
Honest timeline note: NDA product registration and import permitting can take several weeks to a few months for first-time products. Registration is the buyer's responsibility to hold before commercial import. We supply all documentation. We do not promise instant clearance.
Uganda operates a Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) programme administered on behalf of UNBS. Where medical consumables fall under regulated standards, a Certificate of Conformity may be required at port. SWIFTSKY's pre-shipment inspection by SGS or Intertek supports this where applicable.
